Press Release: Flex Coalition Members Support Measured Approach in Texas

On December 3, a number of Flex Coalition members joined a letter to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts in support of the measured savings approach in the Home Efficiency Rebates (HOMES). Texas recently submitted both their HOMES and Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR) applications to the Department of Energy, which would provide Texans with over $689 million in funding towards energy efficiency and weatherization home improvements.

The Flex Coalition members urged the state to adopt the measured savings approach, which determines rebate savings through the measurement and analysis of meter data. This method aligns well with Texas’ competitive grid market and established meter infrastructure and ensures a higher return on investment for the state’s finite funds. The measured approach, through its ability to prioritize savings that occur during peak demand, can provide the foundation for VPPs to reduce grid stress, improve grid reliability, and reduce infrastructure costs.

Flex Coalition members continue to advocate for performance-based solutions that will enable a more reliant, flexible, and efficient grid.
